Effective communication skills are important for me as I will be using these skills in almost all kinds of events - as long as these events involve people. There are many instances in our life which requires effective communication skills which ranges from casual daily events to formal job interviews and working in offices.
However, effective communication is not restricted to only verbal communication. In the module, we learn about not only the power of verbal communication but also nonverbal and body languages which makes learning about effective communication a complete package. We have learnt about the importance of 7Cs in business writing but its usage can be extended to be used in verbal communication. As mentioned, communication can come in different forms but it can also come in many channels such as emails, letters, phone calls, face to face. I find it important to be aware of what channels to choose under different circumstances as the right channel will optimized the process of sending the message from to the recipient with minimal variance from the intended message and also adequately considering the recipient’s feelings.
Another important aspect of effective communication is to avoid conflicts from occurring. I find it important to be learning about fostering intercultural communication and learning to resolve interpersonal conflicts as these are crucial topics to be aware of in order to communicate in a multi-cultural world today. Very often, the lack of cross cultural competence can result in serious misunderstanding and conflicts and I do not wish for these situations to occur.
In a nutshell, I find it important to combine the power of all forms of communication skills in order to converse effective putting my message across clearly and accurately to the recipient.
Hi Shu Yan,
ReplyDeleteI can see your love for pink!
Haz, that aside, one can see the thought you have put into this post. You talked about the importance of effective communication to you and mentioned the various aspects of it. I especially liked the part about how effective communication is also about choosing the right channel so to optimize the communication process. This is something I tend to neglect so it is refreshing to read it on your blog.
If there is one thing to say to help each other improve, then it would perhaps be that the usage of language in some parts of the post can be improved. This would allow people to better understand the point you are putting across.
Like in the last sentence of your 2nd paragraph, perhaps it can be split into two sentences to make it easier to understand. The part "with minimal variance from the intended message" may sound a little cumbersome so maybe you can try something like this "while keeping the original meaning of the message intact." I apologise if this suggestion does not represent fully what you are trying to say.
Lastly, I like the idea of baking too though I do not have much chance to try. Nevertheless I would love to ask on your latest baking experimentations :)

Hi Shu Yan,
ReplyDeleteWhat a colourful blog! The colour combination makes it very attractive. :)
You have brought up very relevant points especially the importance of the medium of communication for different situations because it can make or break a conversation or any situation at hand.
I particularly like your emphasis on the importance of implementing the 7 C's in verbal communication in addition to in business writing. I think we sometimes forget the importance of being clear, concise and complete in verbal conversations, and instead beat about the bush without any significant output.
Cross-cultural understanding is yet another essential skill in today's context which cannot be ignored especially with rapid globalization.
You also elaborated well on your main points with good supporting statements which brings out your ideas completely and makes it an easy read without the reader having to figure out what point you are trying to get across.
Looking forward to your next post ;)
Regards,
Prameet
Hi Shuyan,
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing that all our blogs have different shades of colour perhaps reflecting on our personality.
I like the format of your blog post. You first mentioned what kind of communication methods there are followed by different areas where effective commumication are important before summing up the whole thing. The smooth flow makes reading it easy.
However, I feel that it can be better if there are more examples to support your arguments.
Regards,
Kenneth
Hi Shu Yan,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your post as it has great readablity. You make your writing very coherent by using several clear transitional words at the beginnig of each paragraph like "However", "Another important aspect...", "in a nutshell", etc. Thus, it is easy for your readers to capture your points and see the structure of your writing.
It could become a perfect post if you relate those general aspects of importance of effective communication to your own experience.
I am looking forward to your future post.

Yinbei
Greetings to my dear classmates.
ReplyDeleteFirst let me thank you for your comments.
Thank you!!
Next, let me summarize the positive and negative points of my post.
Let me start off with the negative points, yes I do realize that I have the tendency to type a run-on sentence or let some parts get "cumbersome" as SiXiao has noticed. I definitely have to work on this and not let it happen so frequently. I do hope to write in a more proper structure.
Also, I realized that I have been almost too general on the importance of effective communication, yes I will bring in more example in my future posts.=)Thank you kenneth for your comment.
Thank you prameet for the positive comment about the mention of different channels of communications in my post and for liking the colour combination. However, it is time for the colour to go because it doesn't make my blog professional enough. Well, I hope my next template will still be as attractive =)
Yes, relating to yinbei's comment, I do attempt to make use of connectors to make my passage coherent and will keep this up.
As for the 7Cs, if i were to grade myself,
out of
clear, concise, complete, courteous, coherent, concrete, correct.
Perhaps in this post, I only score a 3/7.
I hope I will score better for the next post.
Lastly, please feel free to rate me based on the 7Cs for all my post. I will appreciate it, thank you.=)
Dear Shu Yan
ReplyDeleteI note you have summarized the main points, which is good.
I also note you have read my email and changed the look of your post and included a career statement.
On the whole, I am pleased that you have acted on feedback from all. It shows good reflection.
